Frequently asked

Custom Millwork — your questions, answered.

What is custom millwork and how is it different from stock cabinetry?

Custom millwork is joinery built to a project's exact specifications — reception desks, cabinetry, feature walls, and built-ins made to fit the space, materials, and design. Stock cabinetry comes in fixed sizes and finishes off the shelf. Custom work uses filler-free dimensions, chosen materials, and detailing that stock cannot match, which suits branded retail, commercial, and one-of-a-kind residential spaces in Greater Montréal.

How long does custom millwork take to build and install?

Custom millwork typically runs several weeks from approved shop drawings through fabrication to install — longer than the few weeks for stock cabinets. Timelines depend on scope, material and hardware lead times, and finishing. Shop drawings must be approved before fabrication starts, so we confirm the schedule early and coordinate delivery with the rest of the construction to avoid delays on site.

What materials are used for custom millwork and how is it priced?

Case bodies are usually plywood or MDF, surfaced with wood veneer, high-pressure laminate, solid surface, or stone depending on use and budget. Exposed edges are banded or given a solid-wood edge. Pricing is generally quoted per linear foot and varies widely with materials, finishes, hardware, and complexity — custom costs more than stock but is built to last decades.
